LOGLINE
A funeral keyboardist struggles to accept her son’s imminent departure as they navigate the final days of their life together in the arid landscapes of northern Peru.
SYNOPSIS
Sol, 58, supports her household by playing keyboard at nightly wakes in Piura. She lives with Junior, her college-aged son, who is about to graduate and dreams of leaving for Lima. As they drive across the desert, listen to cumbias on the radio, and exchange conversations that never quite reach what truly matters, they coexist in a quiet tension.
Sol fears being left behind, while Junior knows he must leave to become the person he hopes to be. As his departure draws closer, the weight of everything left unsaid begins to surface. Set against the vast landscapes of northern Peru, That Shadow Fading is a restrained and deeply human portrait of love, migration, and the fragile moment when a child quietly stops belonging to home.

DIRECTOR
Samuel Urbina (b. 1996, Piura, Peru) is a filmmaker whose work explores the intersection of fiction and documentary through a strong sense of place. Rooted in northern Peru, his cinema examines territory, memory, and the emotional landscapes shaped by migration and family.
His films have screened internationally at festivals including Málaga, Guadalajara, São Paulo, Cartagena de Indias, and Lima. That Shadow Fading is his debut feature film.
